I think there's little question that long term weed use has negative effects on mental ability that spill over beyond the short term effects of the drug. Potheads, in my experience, tend to be rendered pretty dumb even when they're not high.

In poker terms, there are few things I love more than hearing the slow, inarticulate speech of a long term pothead at the table. It's almost as good a sign as a convention badge.

Cliche, unfounded and lame. Just like the rest of the [censored] you post.

According to the very latest research, chronic use of mary-gee-juana causes sporadic weight gain, accelerated spending on good music and disinterest in picking fights with big-headed plugs who inhabit some poker rooms. You should anticipate the need for the 80 gig iPod and you may need to load a few feature-length films, especially if you're going to smoke that evil stuff and then play limit.

My research has also found that combining zoom-zoom bud with alcohol, especially vintage red wines, causes napping at the table which some casinos consider "rude."

I forgot to address this. I smoke weed every day and I would wager my life that I can write, think, and speak more clearly than you whether I'm high or not. I am quite certain I can find innumerable other stupid potheads who can as well.

It really changes your perspective on things. For me it carries over sometimes when I'm not high.

Does anyone know about long term effects of pot on people from a psychological perspective? Has research been done?

I used to be a heavy pot smoker in my late teens and early 20's and I'm pretty sure it messed up my memory. My memory was never good but now it is really bad. Psychologically I don't think it harmed me at all.

The 'drug' war is a war on people, not a war on drugs. It is a means to control the masses. They need to instill fear in citizens to get them to have them invested in paying taxes 'for their own good'.

Here is an interesting site comprised of former law enforcement officers who are now for legalization of drugs. They have a really cool video link at their site too.

yeah this is kind of funny because i have, on a couple of occasions, alluded to the fact that I am high at the table in my casino when i'm around drunk/stubborn/ignorant guys by talking slow, mentioning ganj, etc...i get so much action it's sick. Once, someone even laughed at me and said "you probably can't even read your own cards" lolol. It's definetely possible to use people's own misconceptinos against them.

If smoking pot effects your judgement*, then the testimonials of pot smokers are not likely to be very reliable. I would give this possibility consideration when evaluating the advice in this thread.

Paul

*I have no idea whether smoking pot effects your judgement or not, but I think it is certainly a possibility.
