Racist Ad?

A man named Walter Moore is running for mayor of Los Angeles. I heard an ad on the radio for him yesterday asking people if they were tired of living in a "third world city where you have to dial one to speak English?"

Racist? Or merely in poor taste? Or neither?

Eh, kind of poor taste. The "third world" comment smacks of racism though. LA definitely isn't economically third world, so he must be saying that speaking spanish = third world country.

Maybe he thinks poor people concentrated in a given area that are citizens of a "almost third world" country to be third world.

I really dont think Mexico is third world, but it is also not near the top. I would call Mexico a second class country. I think the politician is just saying third world to exagerate. Politicians do that you know.

Im sure he will catch hell for the comment though, by next week he will be compared to Hitler, be called a racist bigot homophobic dog and cat hater who detests small children old people and the handicapped.

This country is being ruined by political correctness.

At least you don’t have to press two for English.

I can’t stand being stuck in a 20 minute, 10 tier que with a question as simple as, “what are your office hours.” Therefore, I enjoy the option of selecting 2 for Spanish. It breaks the monotony and allows me to learn a little Spanish in my 20 minute wait. I can’t wait until they have 3 for Mandarin, 4 for Australian, 5 for . . .
