There is absolutly no way the football team will be able to catch a dog running full spead at them, assuming that there is like 60 yards difference between them.

[/ QUOTE ]

So you are saying if you put two professional kick coverage guys 4.7 yards apart the dog can run between them? Because that is the entirety of this question.

[/ QUOTE ]

If the dog is running full speed TOWARDS THEM they have no chance at catching it

[/ QUOTE ]

Why not?

I also think that a lot of you underestimate how fast a football player is.

Many kick return guys can run like 4.3 40's. I bet less than 1% of this board can do that.

The only animal on the planet faster than one is a cheetah.

This is very wrong.

I think the NFL team wins this, they can just form a line as others have said and close in on the dog when it commits

how is this relevant to anything?

People are like, "I can't catch my dog oh noes"

NFL players are waaaay faster than you. And have better agility.

And a retriever doesn't run better than a 3.5, probably like a 3.8

what gives a dog an advantage is it's ability to change direction very quickly. when my little dog is being chased by my big dog he zig zags and can't be caught. a dog would use a similar technique to try and beat the nfl team. if the dog has blockers i think he will score more than half the time. without blockers, even with his agility i think the dog will have trouble scoring more than 25 percent of the time.

Im sure nfl players r fast, but they cant run close to 20mph. If the dog gets by them at any point they will never catch it...ever provided its trained and all. Like someone else said the dog will zigzag, a dog faking one direction going in the other isnt exactly like a human doing it. I give it 70/30 for the dog. With really good teamwork the team can prob take it down enough times. Agaianst a greyhound though, im confident the team has no chance whatsoever. And for the people saying that "people catch dogs in open areas all the time", that has nothing to do with this. When they do catch them its usually because they trick them or get close enough to pounce them when the dog is in a stand still.

I'm assuming it's 1 dog v whole team. I voted dog, because it seems it would be hard as hell to tackle him by the time he just ran past.

Bingo!

DOGS ARE 2 FEET OFF THE GROUND PEOPLE! Humans will have to dive for the dog and the dog can stop on a dime.

The football team wins here about 99% of the time vs a golden retriever, and 90% vs a greyhound.

[/ QUOTE ]

No. 99% is just plain silly.

and the 90%... holy Jesus
