QK, one pair, early on. River situation.
Still really early in the 4.40/180 on PS. I'm sure most of you will dislike the UTG raise (if so, you can say so but plz don't make that the focus of your post, thanks).

I checked, villian bet 800. (I have 880 left) NOW, what is the appropriate action? -eroc |

Re: QK, one pair, early on. River situation.
i dont mind the UTG raise, but im folding KQo there. what i do mind is your bet on the flop. its pretty small on such a drawy board, id go like 300. i dont know if im betting turn or not, but if i am, that bet is way too small...as played, im c/cing a small bet, likely folding to a shove

Re: QK, one pair, early on. River situation.
fold pf with 30bbs.
The reason that you fold preflop is you are totally pot committed once you hit your hand. Fold preflop, bet more on the flop and get it in on the turn. |

Re: QK, one pair, early on. River situation.
aw man, fold pf?
ive been trying to tighten up, b/c although i love tournaments, i love to mix it up and pull gus hansen type wild-plays. ive finished 3rd (of 1140), 5th (of 650), and 25ish (of 500) recently for a total of ~$1000 (big money for my little roll) by tightening up, but I guess im still dibble-dabbling a lil bit too much. what hands SHOULD i open from this position with? -eroc |

Basically, don't play hands easily subject to being dominated, KQ or KJ being a prime example, since you never know where you are at. |

Re: QK, one pair, early on. River situation.
What about checking the flop? To some degree, I'm trying to employ into my game the NLHTP book's theory that, OOP, you should often check top pair to keep the pot small, usually float calling if villian bets, and be disciplined enough to fold the turn if a scare card comes and villian bets big (or fold regardless of what card comes depending on your read of villian).
If you can do this then I'd think that raising KQs UTG is ok? |
