Casinos in the Caribbean
Hi all,
Wife wants a vacation near a beach. I want a vacation near a casino. Sounds like a job for the Caribbean. Having not been there since I've started playing, I'm looking for suggestions about great vacation ideas there that a) keep wife happy, b) keep husband happy, and c) keep our four-year-old son happy. A family-oriented all-inclusive plan would be optimal. I've heard good things about Turks & Caicos, especially where being family/kid friendly is concerned. Any suggestions from the 2+2 gang? Thanks, Matt |

Re: Casinos in the Caribbean
I am also in the (nearly) exact same situation. Can anyone verify a resort casino in the Caribbean islands that offers regular games and tournaments of hold-em poker in an actual poker room (not in some fleabag back-room that a cab driver takes you to)?
I'm starting to conclude that there aren't many to choose from, except for maybe the seven tables at the Excelsior Casino inside the Holiday Inn SunSpree on Aruba. This page is somewhat helpful, though half its links seem outdated: http://www.gocee.com/poker/casino/international.htm |

Re: Casinos in the Caribbean
I went to a casino in St John's, Antigua back in 1995. Their tourism slogan, at least back then, was that Antigua has 365 beaches, one for each day of the year.

Re: Casinos in the Caribbean
my thoughts are this is a bad idea. im only replying from lurking, not first hand experience. poker games in the carib are very limited. what if you get stuck somewhere where you dont like the games, rakes, stakes, structures, etc? only 2/3 of the involved will be happy.
if sun, heat, beaches and fun are prerequisites, try san diego. the nearest ones are 30 miles away but atleast you have choices. |

Re: Casinos in the Caribbean
There's a bunch of casinos in St. Maarten. I didn't play but I'm pretty sure they had limit poker. Also, Puerto Rico had a casino with poker.

Re: Casinos in the Caribbean
If you check the archives, I recently described my wife and I's July trip to Aruba. We stayed at the Radisson. In short, had a good time, nice place, decent poker room with soft competition. In non-peak times (i.e. not the Aruba tournament) usually run 1-2 tables of 4-8 limit and one table of 5/5/10 NL. They also have nightly tournaments with a house juiced Sunday tournament (extra $500 in pot). Nicer poker room than the Holiday Inn. Good hotel for families. I would not do an all-inclusive deal at any hotel...too many good restaurants on the island to check out....although the all-inclusive RUI just opened next door.
