Default If Ron Paul doesn\'t win the primary...

...I'm all over Christine Smith.

This is the first time I've ever been in complete agreement with a politician on every issue (or at least, all the issues they've expressed an opinion on). Even all the other LP candidates have some flaws imo.

Does anyone have more info on who's the favorite to get the LP nom? Boro?

I haven't followed Big L Libertarian politics in several years, ever since I decided that:

A) The system is completely rigged against third parties, and

B) The LP is a joke.

(B) might have changed in the past few years, though I highly doubt it, but there is no way that (A) has.

Gun Control & Right To Bear Arms

I oppose gun control laws. I will restore your right to self-defense. Your right to bear arms is not negotiable.

I oppose federal laws and regulations which intrude upon the rights of the American people to keep and bear arms. 'Gun control' laws only restrict law-abiding people, they do not make people safer. Criminals can always obtain their guns and they will ignore gun bans.

Federal gun regulations simply result in victim disarmament. We must have strong laws and enforce them against the perpetrators of violent crime, not the tool they use.

Infringement laws only prevent people from defending themselves, making us a far more dangerous society.

I think I just found my backup if Paul doesn't win the primary.

This is a publicity shot you just don't see enough of in Presidential candidates.

Libertarian Party internal politics is full of . . . politics. Petty fighting over power and influence, etc.

Think about that. WTF kind of power and influence do you have in the frigging LIBERTARIAN PARTY that you have to have intrigues and power struggles over?

Not to mention the fact that the people who stay LP activists for more than a few years strike me as those unwilling to, or incapable of, following through to the logical conclusions of the philosophy. Not to mention the magnetic attraction of the Party to lonely kooks and one-issue nuts who haven't the foggiest CLUE what "libertarianism" is. There is no end to the hippie pot smokers who call themselves "Libertarians" that are all for government "protecting" the environment, or "regulating" business. And then there is the converse, who completely overlook the incestuous relationship of business and the state. Then there's the socialists in Libertarian clothing (ala Bill Maher) and the neocons in Libertarian clothing (ala Neal Boortz).

Murray Rothbard gave up on the LP decades ago, because quite frankly, most of them just don't "get it", it being actual libertarianism.

I think someone can legitimately be a minarchist libertarian and think the government should protect the environment. In fact, I would say myself that while air and ocean should be privately owned, until that happens they do need to be protected as best we can and the government, for better or worse, is the legitimate agency for protecting "collective interests". It's no different than supporting government for defensive military or for police/fire department.

I'm not sure he still calls himself a libertarian. I dunno how he can given his strong dislike of Ron Paul.
