Great answer, thanks Josem. I think I can see where our difference of opinion comes from.

I would rate Australia just of a 5, slightly ahead of the US but probably 2 ahead of India, and a smidgen more to Pakistan, and a bit more again to Iran.

I would put Switzerland, first at 6.5 or 7. I would put Denmark, Norway, Sweden ahead of Australia (say 5.5 or 6). Bear in mind that we mentioned democracy and progressiveness. I may put India just ahead of Australia for democracy, but not, by a long way, for progressiveness.

I am understanding where you come from, we obviously have different values!

progressiveness, of course, is a bit amorphous, but i reckon the gap between switzerland and australia has got to be massively smaller than the gap between australia and pakistan.

of course, there's no right/wrong answer, so it's just a value judgement.

An Iranian bomb means the end of the NPT.

What is so sacred about the NPT or any other treaty amongst sovereign nations who are free to disregard any treaty when it no longer suits their interests?

That would seem remarkably unlikely - India is a fairly stable democracy, while Pakistan is a dictatorship with far less reliability, I imagine.

Ironically, America is the loudest country today discussing the possible preemptive use of nukes should its interests dictate.

They are plenty of those, daryn.

Unfortunately there are far more world-wide consequences to political action by the US, than by NZ or Fiji, for instance, not meaning ro single out specific countries!
