Re: An unbiased (but incomplete) list of things to read before you die
Great list so far- lots of truth in those pages. I'll add my personal favorite:
Unamuno, Tragic Sense of Life I'm also a big fan of Cioran's aphorisms, best collection probably being The Trouble with Being Born. |

Excellent list
For me I would add Grapes of Wrath and for a poem, Dulce et Decorum Est. |

[ QUOTE ]
Spare yourself Pushkin and Tolstoy; after Dostoyevsky, this is the best thing written in Russian. [/ QUOTE ] I got this far and decided the rest of your post wasn't worth reading. |

[ QUOTE ] The Brothers Karamozov, Doetoeskvy <sp?> Don't let the length fool you, and this book itsn't as hard to understand as other great 'classics' (Crime and Punishment, Dubliners, etc.). It's a surprisingly readable, provocative, and deep story that reveals in complete clarity the various heights and depths of human emotion. I've never met ANYONE who's read this book and did not consider it one of their all-time favorites </reading rainbow> [/ QUOTE ]I'll be starting this book soon and I'm sure I'll agree. War and Peace needs to be on this list. It's really amazing. [/ QUOTE ] This is my favorite book ever written, and the only thing I'd suggest to add to this list. |
