Default Weekly Edition of \"Is this guy a douchebag?\"

Here's another one for OOT to examine. Got into a fight for a half hour with my friend over this one.

Background: Max is a manager of a restaurant. Max has been working there for 5 years. All the kitchenmen are your basic run of the mill illegals south of the border. Max has worked with Pepe for his entire stay at the restaurant.

Over the last 3 years most of the kitchenman have taken up an interest in baseball and the Yankees. Max has taught them the rules and played a few games with them at a field near the restaurant before work. Another kitchenman Carlos, went to the Yankees game last week and got tickets for $75.00 (seat location unknown) Pepe has never been to a Yankees game and him and 3 others in the restaurant expressed interest to go.

Pepe asks Max if he can get him tickets to a Yankee game vs Boston. He says they are willing to pay what Carlos paid to go to the game. Max says he'll see if he can find some. Max finds an Ebay seller with 4 tickets to said game v Red Sox in the bleachers. He buys 4 tickets for $120 total.

Max then tells Pepe he was able to get 4 tickets for them. Pepe and the others are thrilled and hand Max $300 within a couple of minutes. Max claims he simply supplied them with what they are asking for and they are happy and he did nothing wrong. Is he a prick for jacking up the price and should he of sold them what he paid for them? The $180 or so profit is somewhat significant to Max, he works a couple of jobs and just had a baby.

What would you charge for the tickets?

It sounds like you're both douches if you fought for 1/2 hour about this. Did you think it was just your roommate?

This is minor douchebaggery. If I do someone a favor and grab some tickets off of eBay, I ask for what they cost me, not more. I am pretty sure "willing" to pay $75 means they don't mind paying that much if that's what the tickets cost. I don't think Pepe's offer was meant as an invitation to be charged 2.5x what the tickets cost.

The closer Pepe and Max are to being actual friends, the larger the douchebag factor, here.

I wouldn't charge them anything more than I paid. I can understand someone taking a small profit for the effort, but taking anything over $150 is douchey.
