Default The Prisoner Remake - Can it be any good?

BBC annouced today that they will be making a 6 part mini-series remake of The Prisoner with Christoper Eccleston (new Dr. Who).

[ QUOTE ]
Damien Timmer, who has been lined up to executive produce the show for Granada, told Broadcast the new series would take "liberties with the original" and would not retain its arty feel.

"Although it will be a radical reinvention, it will still be a heightened show," he added.

[/ QUOTE ]

That doesn't sound good.

Is Eccleston going to dump this show after one season, too?

Director of programmes Richard Woolfe promised a "thrilling reinvention" of the drama

Sounds like all it needs is a "Queer Eye for the Straight Prisoner" make-over.

Can anyone name a single top notch movie or series that was remade, and the remake was even watchable?

There have been a ton of great ideas for movies that bombed upon production. Why don't people try to do these right, instead of clueless, impossible projects like remaking Psycho?

Just for starters, relevant to these forums, how about remaking "Shade"? "Tilt"?

No, it can't be any good. It will be horrible.

They should just air the originals again and again. Too bad there were only 18 episodes.

Ben Hur.

Although I have to admit the original silent is in some ways better. And it has more nudity. I'm not kidding.

i thought the idea was just a six part mini-series, and it has a chance to be good.

for those of you who are used to incredibly clever and original ideas on 267 channels, the prisoner was the only thing out there when it was new. Nothing was even close to as avant garde and thought provoking...Nothing!

Hitchhiker's guide and Dr Who and things might have come along in books or on BBC, but for American teenagers the only thing remotely similar was the twilight zone. if you wanted something besides i love lucy and the honeymooners, the prisoner was it!

The new Dr Who is absolutely fantastic, BTW!

It will be bad because nobody will be able to stand up in comparison to McGoohan. This project has been in the works a while, as well as a feature film (theoretically the rights are owned by the Usual Suspects writer?) Too bad McGoohan is dead, they would be better off doing a post-village mini-series with him playing #6 years later.
