Default What would you do with $100K and 3 months spare

In my saving account I have about $100K. I have another $40K spare for bankroll, loans to friends, staking etc.

I have 3 months completely free, barring a few weekend holidays.

Poker is breakeven last few weeks and I wouldn't mind getting my teeth stuck into something.

I have a project on the go which takes about an hour a day of my time.

Any thoughts?

And no this is not a 'wow, i have $100k' as most people reading this will have very many numerals of that, i'm just wondering if it's better invested outside of a savings account.

If not, so be it, just curious.

dude, i just posted about prop trading where they train you to day trade and you deposit & and make some.

instead of 5k, start with 25k

I know JohnKane lives in The UK. You can open a daytrading account with 100 quid, and make 1p spreadbets. Remember this is all tax-free in The UK.

I wouldn't advise it as particularly +EV, but it would be a nice break from poker.

I recommend CMC markets, and advise against Finspreads, and strongly advise you set aside a small % of your roll to lose.

It's the best financial education you can get.

if you live in the UK, you should check out sports arbitrage/bonus whoring. far less risky than day trading the markets. much better return that any savings account and tax free in the UK. i guess the downsides would be, one, that you will not be able to deploy all of that capital (maybe a third because of betting limits) and two, its not passive, though you would probably only really need to spend about and hour or two a day doing it. if you are a sports fan, its kind of fun too

i was thinking of start up with say £2K, just to make it worthwhile, although i wouldnt mind (too much) if i lost.

when you say it's -EV, is it becuase, same as the bookmaker scenario, you are betting that you have an edge over their prediction?

i was thinking of going long on sugar and ethanol (yes, i do buy into the fads, but uranium 'fad' made me a decent wack, so i don't see why this 'fad' cant do the same).

ive signed up with IGindex as they offer everything pretty much to bet on.

The reason I said it was -EV was because unlike betting on futures, your spreadbetting broker has a vested interest in you losing all your money. They win when you lose - just like a bookie.

Even their spot prices are way above the market. I've emailed almost all of them to ask why. I've even provided data comparing their prices to the market and they all deny it.

Their spot prices trade more like futures, and their futures are always all over the shop. You'll get you stops hit even when the market trades nowhere near that level.

As long as you know this, then go ahead.

You are better off with CFDs that actually hedge in the underlying. I think IGindex's CFDs trade on their own market.

These brokers are effectively bucket shops.
