Default Johan Santana says he\'d waive his NTC, what could your team offer?

Minnesota will more than likely be unable to afford to resign Santana after the '08 season, so they'll have to look into trading him this off-season.

Minnesota would be looking for offensive help, mainly at 3B, LF and DH and would probably want a 3-4 starter as well.

Buster Olney came up with

Santana P
Bartlett SS

for

J. Reyes SS
M. Pelfrey P
C. Gomez OF

This trade would be seemingly beneficial for each side.

Play GM for a day, what would your team offer for The Best Pitcher in the Universe?

if they trade santana the twins are gonna make out like bandits

one year of a great player getting paid a lot typically isn't worth one average regular who's a couple years away from hitting arb

This is why a club offering a [censored] for Santana would demand that they have the opportunity to sign him to an extension first. The Twins only receive mega-value if the team can sign Santana to an extension.

The Sox can put together a good package (I suggested one) that doesn't include Buccholtz, who (too add a little reality) is still just a prospect who hasn't done anything Wilson Alvarez didnt do.

I didn't know Buchholz pitched 15 years of solid-to-good baseball.

What would we personally try to give, or what would our team reasonably offer?

Yankees sign and trade A-Rod? Braves trade Texeira plus some excellent prospect? I don't know.
