25 NL: Set on a monotone board
I [censored] hate monotone boards and I always feel like I'm screwing up (probably playing too aggro). Both others just sat down, and of the ten or so hands I have on them they have VPIPs of 60 and 100 respectively.
Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players LegoPoker Hand History Converter SB: $45.30 BB: $51.35 Hero (UTG): $25.10 CO: $25 BTN: $26.05 Pre-Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (UTG) Hero raises to $1, CO folds, BTN calls $1, SB folds, BB calls $0.75 Flop: ($3.10) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $2.50, BTN calls $2.50, BB calls $2.50 Turn: ($10.60) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $7.25, BTN calls $7.25, BB calls $7.25 River: ($32.35) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 Players) BB checks, Hero... Do I shove and hope to get called by an Ad pairing on the river, or check/fold? |

Re: 25 NL: Set on a monotone board
Definitely do not check fold, you can either c/c if you think villain is likely to stab at it or you can shove. Seeing as you got called in two spots, I am going to go with c/c.

Re: 25 NL: Set on a monotone board
I would probably check-call a shove actually. It's close but your river check may give BTN a chance to shove 2 pair thinking you would have shoved with a flush. maybe too sophisticated for their level of thinking though. thoughts?

Re: 25 NL: Set on a monotone board
I can see a valueshove or c/c. I don't like c/c as much as valueshove because villains arn't betting A river without a strong hand.

Re: 25 NL: Set on a monotone board
With a set, monotone boards need to to be played aggressively. It's just too likely that someone has a naked [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] that you don't want to let stick around for cheap.
After building such a big pot here, and only having about $14 left, I'm check/folding never. I like the push, which is less than a 1/2 pot size bet and will get looked up by a big range of hands. |

Re: 25 NL: Set on a monotone board
Thanks a lot, everyone. I was being results oriented as four of the last five times I was in this (almost exact same) spot, I valuestacked myself, this time included: I shoved and button flipped over A7dd.
At any rate, it's a relief to know that this play is totally standard for 100BB. |
