Default what poker chips to buy?

I want to buy poker chips and most sets i see on ebay that are 500 pieces offer it with 150 1 dollar grey chips, 150 red 5 dollar chips, 100 25 dollar green chips, 50 50 dollar blue chips and 50 100 dollar black chips. I can also customize it and have any denomination and quanity of 500 chips i want for extra 5 dollars. The total for this on ebay including shipping is about 60 dollars which is not much to me.

My question is should i customize it and just have 1 dollar, 5 dollar and 25 dollar chips and forget about having any 50/100 dollar chips? I also see that i can choose 10 dollar chips as well. I just play poker with about 4-5 friends and we usually play like a mini- tournament and none of them really like to play cash games. I also want to have a set for myself and i noticed that when i played 1-2 no limit at the casino, all they gave me were 1 and mostly 5 dollar chips.

Should i customize it and have more 1 and 5 dollar chips and forget about the big denomination chips or should i just buy it the way it already is. I kind of feel like i rather customize it and have only 1 dollar, 5 dollar, 10 dollar and some 25 dollar chips in case for home games i may have in the future.

And to those people who have home games that play 1/2 no limit, do you guys only carry 1 5 and 10 dollar chips? I feel like the 50 and 100 dollar chips are sort of worthless unless i play tournamnets.

thanks guys.

The only advice I have for ya is don't buy pre-marked chips. They're annoying.

Buy plain coloured ones, so you can play any sort of game and set flexible values.

I have a couple sets that have 50 black, 50 white, 100 blue, 100 red, and 200 green. Works great.

I agree with the above post. Denominations can be handicapping when you go to change your game, or betting levels. Are you only going to play 1/2 NL? If so, I'd get like 300 white/greys, 100 reds and 50 blues if doing the standard color to denoms.
If you are also going to do tourneys, you'll need a whole different set up depending on what you want to do for startinig chips etc.

For $1/2NL there is no need to have more than $25 chips. I was at a game one time and a guy had ~1800 infront of him and it wasnt too bothersome to anyone at the table. But yes I would also go with plain chips.

I have "All In" chips...to me they are by far the best chip for the home game. They have the best feel and are truly 100% clay with a great weight to them. All these other chips are usually some kind of composite which makes them extra slick and annoying to play with. They are more expensive, but to me (since we do a weekly game) totally worth it and wouldnt play with anything else.
