Default OMG the Hoosiers are going to a bowl!

Its been 14 years since we were whooped by VT in the Independence Bowl.

We've been through 5 coaches since then: 1 retired, 2 fired and 1 expired.

Its been a long time coming. Hell of a year, too bad no one saw it because all the games were on the big ten network.

The Big Ten has seven bowl tie-ins right? OSU, Michigan, Penn St., Wisconsin, Michigan St., Purdue, and Indiana all have winning records. Iowa and Northwestern are both 5-5. Assuming Iowa and Northwestern both get one more win two teams are going to get screwed.

Indiana better start lobbying those bowl reps now.

why would they get screwed?

Just because they have 7 bowl tie-ins doesn't mean that only 7 Big10 teams can get invited.

32 bowl games now I believe. I think 120 D1 or Subdivision teams or whatever.

It's kind of hard to be a BCS conference team with 6 wins and NOT get invited to a bowl. I don't know how often it happens at all.

Usually the only 6-6 or 7-5 teams to not go bowling are out of non-BCS conferences like the MAC or Sun Belt.

Just looking into this a bit more now because I got curious.
Seems almost all the bowls have conf tie-ins now except for the Poinsettia bowl which does have 1 at-large bid.

CUSA is an interesting one though because they have 5 or 6 bowl tie-in's...Texas Bowl is either CUSA or Big 12 for one of the bids it appears.
But I'm not sure they will even have 5 bowl eligible teams.
Going into today not a single team has 6 wins. Only 7 teams are within striking distance and I think they could end up with less than 5 who make it.

ECU 5-4 - winning big so they should clinch a bowl
UCF 5-3
MEM 4-4 - losing big so they will be eliminated
USM 4-4
-------
HOU 5-3
Tulsa 5-3
UTEP 4-4

All you Hoosier fans and fans of other borderline 6-win teams can start rooting for Rice right now. They are trailing UTEP by 6. UTEP needs to win to stay alive for bowl elibigility.

The MAC looks okay for their obligation but it's not a lock quite yet.
they have 3 bowl tie-in's...the International, GMAC and Motor City bowls. I think they'll be able to fill them though as they have 6 teams that are either 4-5, 5-4 or 5-5.

MicroBob- The SEC will have 10 or 11 teams qualify for bowls. Teams are gonna get screwed.

PAC 10 is another one interestingly enough.

I count 6 bowl tie-in's for them and right now they only have 6 that can make it at all.
4 teams have already been eliminated... .STAN, ARI, WSU, WAS.

UCLA, OSU, CAL are all 5-3.

If just one of those teams loses all their remaining games then the PAC 10 won't be able to fill all 6 spots.
UCLA has ASU, ORE and USC left so that's a definite possibility for them.
OSU and CAL both has WAS and WSU left so one assumes they should make it.

As a Purdue fan (along with the Sooners), I am thoroughly disgusted by this! :-)

IU plays NW next week and really needs that one too imo. Especially since it also prevents NW from getting their 6th win.
NW finishes at ILL so if they get eliminated than that helps the Hoosiers. But I think IU would be selected over them anyway.

Iowa can finish with 7 wins if they beat MIN and WMU so they seem like they should make it.

MSU still might not make it though. They are losing to MICH and then finish with PUR and PSU.

So if the Big10 finishes with only 8 teams that are eligible which would mean that NW and MSU don't qualify along with MIN who are already eliminated then that would obviously help IU the most.
