Black grenadine ties are perfectly appropriate for most suits.

ok so i'm talking about a tie which is black, not talking about the "black tie" type of event.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you aware that "black tie" refers formalwear, i.e. a dinner jacket, and not wearing a suit with a dark necktie?

[/ QUOTE ]

Indeed, Black Tie is Tuxedo. If you are referring to a black tie, I know that it and silver are considered nice for occasions not formal enough for true black tie. Great to look a little nicer without going over the top.

Personally I would never wear a black tie except as part of "Black Tie" attire.

I have to agree with this. Although, you could get away with a much more narrow black tie, like the ones they are wearing in that Reservoir Dogs picture.

as was said by someone above black ties are inappropriate everywhere unless you are a waiter or mr. pink.

black tie events mean there is a tuxedo dress code and does not require a black tie. i wouldn't even where a black tie in that scenario.

Black bolo ties are always fashionable. Don't let anyone tell you any different.
