Default Re: Anyone ever gotten rid of a book because it sullied your collection?

I bought it when it came out when I was a kid and read and re-read it religiously. It really was the only thing out there at the time (remember, this was the late fifties/very early sixties: before the internet and bookstores were few and far between; I bought this in a candy store).

Contrary to what it says on the cover, neither Bret or Bart Maverick had a hand in the writing; it was ghost-written by bridge expert Charles Goren, who peppered the 160 pages with plenty of "pappyisms" (as in "Pappy used to tell me.,,," [Pappy's advice was the Greek Chorus in the TV series]) in between exhorting the reader to play tight. And, I mean, really tight. I took the advice for a couple of games until I wound up like Broomcorn's Uncle (ante'd away). Then, with my other thirteen-year old friends smirking at my tight, wimpy play, I discarded the book and its terrible advice. In hindsight, I think Mason was right at the time in rejecting it for the 2+2 canon.

But, still, it was my first poker book and it would probably be a blast (!!?) reading it again after almost fifty years.

Books that I have read and have no use for any further I take to a used book store and sell them or get store credit. There is a good one here in Raleigh that pays pretty good for used poker books.

Online Poker by Doyle is easily the worst, and I own virtually everything.

You, my friend, obviously do not own a copy of this little gem CNLHT by Rock Banker. Oh yes, search inside.

In Kim Greenblatt's book he actually says that it doesn't really matter what you do in a hand because we are all going to die eventually. I am not kidding.

I absolutely 2nd this! Any book that has you throwing away AQ from Middle position w/ no limpers deserves to get burned.

E-dog's Making the Final Table is on double secret probation unless he wins a bracelet.

Absolutely Seconded!

Very first "Surprise Me" on Amazon brought up this gem:

Player 1: Jc 10c
Player 2: Js 10s
Player 3: Ks Qc
Flop: 7s 8c 9s Turn: 10d River Jd

Commentary: "In this example, Player 1 flopped the Straight, Player 2 made it a haigher Straight on the Turn, and Player 3 made it the Nut Straight on the River; and still, the possibility of Broadway is out there.

I laughed so hard at the analysis on the turn, that I missed the part about the "possibility of Broadway is out there." LOL @ Rock!

I lent "Play Poker Like The Pros" to a buddy. That was well over a year ago. I've never asked for it back. Kinda the same thing as throwing it away.

I've considered throwing out the two McEvoy books I own (Tournament poker and Championship NL and PL hold'em)

I have owned and thrown away both of these books
