Default when to post in a short handed game???

When is the best time to post when you first enter a new short handed game? I am usually waiting for the big blind in a 4 or 5 handed game & 6 and up, I will usually post in the cutoff position. Is this the best strategy? Sorry, I never learned the best way to post. Thanks.

EV-wise it's always best to wait for the bb.

The best strategy is to always wait for the big blind. I guess it would make sense to post out of the blinds if you spotted a maniac that went all in every hand.

Personally I wait for the BB in shorthanded games and post in the CO or MP3 in full games.

Whatever makes you happy is fine though.

I think it's a good idea to wait for the big blind even if you're playing a 10 handed game. One bb might not sound like a lot, but it piles up if you keep posting out of the blinds. While waiting for the blinds you can take notes, observe the other players, etc.

If the table is that good and/or I have excellent position on a big donor, I'll post in the CO on a 9-handed or more table. That's just because I believe that my EV from seeing those extra hands (vs. waiting for the BB) is great enough to justify spending the extra blind.

In a short-handed game you are indeed always best off waiting for the big blind to get around to you. Posting in the CO will only allow you to see an extra 3 hands vs. waiting, and you simply will not earn enough bets long-term by doing that to offset your losses from posting (and putting in additional bets when you don't win).
