When I look at these pictures, I totally see the Hash Driveway from Trailer Park Boys.

Grass is like television.

It really serves no purpose but for some reason people are fascinated by it, and want it to look pretty.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, bad analogy.

GL with the yard.

i'm assuming you couldn't get a dump truck to the yard was the reason you bought dirt in bags. The local sod farm used to sell a pickup truck load for about $10 (that was about 20 years ago tho.) You could've dumped in the front and wheelbarrowed it in. Couldn't have been much more work than totin in all those bags.

I used to spray my whole lawn with roundup in the early spring. I didn't have to start mowing until about mid May. And my grass was very nice. But I waited about 2 weeks too long about 7 years ago and my yard was brown all spring and summer that year. My wife has banned the use of roundup at our house now.

Phresh: awesome.

bd: "your fence post is only buried around 1' deep instead of 2' in this picture." How did you figure that out? I'm sure it's obvious and I will feel dumb once you say.

You can tell by how high the fence posts protrude over the regulation sized fence boards. It's about an extra inch.

I want to redo my lawn but get rid of the grass. Get something that doesn't actually require more water than what my climate (Mediterranean - coastal southern california) zone provides. Having said that, grass is nice and soft and my dog can chill on it. Is there a grass alternative that fits my criteria?

Phresh, i too look forward to seeing the progression of this TR.

good luck with the project. I'm thinking you may have trouble with weeds/ crabgrass coming back in before the lawn gets established. May need to treat with some chemicals to keep weeds at bay. Grass seed usually has a week or more germination time. A Weed and Feed fertilizer might be a good idea... kills weeds while fertilizing the lawn.
