Default Action bet! (8/b)

At the Bike when you scoop a pot of I believe 150+ you are forced to post an action bet.

Anyway I post the forced action bet but I have to bring it in with 2J(3) - so I basically bet 20 from the BI position.

Guy with an Ace limps in directly on my left. Everyone else folds so it is HU

4th

XX AhQh _checks
2J 32 _checks

5th

XX AhQh6h _raises
2J 323 _bets_and I should...

No real read on the guy. The game has just started but he had scooped a nice pot already with a quality hand. He was older and Asian. Didn't seem overly fishy or anything. So let's say no read except that this is a live game.

Let me know what you think

Thanks

Call and call down unless he pairs up or gets another heart seems fine. Or else just fold immediately. Or reraise and fill up (The last one seems like the optimal strategy).

Also is the action bet standard in live games or did everyone at the table agree to that?

I think any of these work. I'd lean towards calling down, as I'm not in the habit of folding half-decent hands against unknown Asians who checked fourth street and now appear to be playing their board.

I've only ever heard of this action bet being used in LA. It is not in use in Minnesota or AC.

I think this is $20/40.

Reminds me of the time when I visited Canterbury on my cross country trip to the west coast---played in the $30-60 stud8 game...went HU with a local from MN, and at the end of the hand, he said, "I have a mini." I was like, wtf is a "mini"? I felt like I was slowrolled as he then decided to table his A2345. Good times, though, and def. the friendliest people I have met on my trip.

As to the question: Well, I wouldv'e bet 4th street. There's enough in the pot to try and take it down right here, and you did say that the player in question didn't seem to be fishy, so I think you should be trying to pick off these small pots in spots like this. but aside from that, I would make the call on 5th and I'm more likely to make it due to the action bets that were put in on 3rd. If he was sitting on a huge hand, so be it, but it's probably more like a 4-flush with perhaps a low draw.

OK

I called 5th

6th

XX AhQh6hTc
J2 3239

I check and he once again bets after he catches a total brick.

Now what should I do?

BTW yes this was 20-40. The action bet is great for the game IMO. And it might be a requirement of 200 now that I think about it. When split pot games are dealt you typically leave the bets in front of each player when the pot is HU so the pot in the middle always seems smaller.

"Mini" is common in these parts, especially Iowa, from what I understand. I always use "wheel" myself, but I'm a transplant. Another common one is "Oscar." Apparently, on The Odd Couple, Oscar always beat Felix with a Six-high straight. An Oscar is a good hand in this game.

I'm planning on knocking over a few liquor stores between now and mid-October, so hopefully the $30/60 stud/8 game will go during the Fall Classic. Come by and give me your moniez. Or play all the limit hold'em you can stand and at least say, "hi."

Interesting. I was always a fan of The Odd Couple but don't have any recollections of that(but I'm sure if I was watching the show now for the first time, I would notice any and everything that had to do with poker). I'll have to use that term the next time I make a six-high straight (although in AC, I'm not so sure it would go over quite the same as it would in your neck of the woods.=)

And if I ever decide to make another trip out to Canterbury, Lord shoot me if you ever see me sitting in a limit holdem game; nah, I'll let you rob me in the high low games.
