Default Inexpensive PC to go with the Dell 30\" monitor

Hey guys,

I've decided to get the 30" Dell after hearing all the raves. Anyway I have two laptops and will need to get a desktop PC in order to hook up the 30" monitor .

So, any suggestions as to which PC i should get that would support the 30" (dual dvi etc..)?

I'm looking for the least expensive model that's compatible - as the only thing ill be using the pc for is online poker.

Thanks,

D.

Is it just one monitor? If it is, what external resolution does your laptop support. Im guessing not enough for a 30" monitor so I guess you will need a desktop.

Build your own or buy the parts and give it to someone who knows how to put it together if you dont. Overall the cheapest way to get the best performance.

You could just buy any cheap Dell desktop or something and just have them upgrade the video card to a dual dvi, or just buy it separately.

First off, take a look at the HP 30" before you settle on the Dell.

And unless you're a total drooler (and since you're here, you're probably not), building your own rig is NOT hard at all. I would highly recommend looking around online and seeing how to do so. You'll get a ton more value for your money.

You won't need dual DVI if you've only got one monitor. That's if you've got two.

You need a fairly decent graphics card to drive it, but any new one should do.

Don't build your own PC. If it breaks you're gonna have a weeks downtime while you poke around inside and wrangle with all the component suppliers to get a replacement.

Really not worth it for the $50 you'll save. You can a kick ass PC from dell for $800, try XPS 210. If it breaks they come to your house the next day and fix it for you.

Seriously, if you rely on your pc for your income it's insane botching one together yourself to save a few bucks.

to run the 30" monitor, you need dual-link dvi.

this is different to dual dvi (which means a video card with two dvi plugs)

more info in the FAQ and wikipedia. reading both is likely to save you a chunk of money if you don't know what you're doing.
