The best (or better) way to play Aces preflop in NL Omaha?
The site I play on has NL Omaha going more than Pot-limit, and I almost feel confident in saying I'm the only one who doesn't misplay it preflop. That is, most either open-shove or 3-bet all-in no matter what before the flop, regardless of the side cards and suitedness of the Aces. I suppose it lowers variance, and two Aces aren't as powerful in Omaha as Texas Hold'em, but it seems equal to just shoving two Aces everytime preflop in Hold'em.
I guess it's kinda tough to disguise my hand because usually no one else raises preflop unless they have Aces (unless they're a short stack and just going all-in) even though I try to 3-bet a variety of hands. In general, should we just be raising the pot with Aces, or should we be making larger bets so we punish people for calling with weaker hands? |

in nl omaha as opposed to holdem aces are a much smaller favorite so you are inclined to win whats out there more than wanting to get action after the flop. so raising allin in many spots is good if you feel you can pick up whats in already. being headup is also important as its bad news to end up multiple against non duplicated hands.

Hate to say this, but you're the one who's misplaying the aces. In NLO, AAxx is a small enough favorite that it's almost never worth encouraging action, especially when any large raise is likely to telegraph your hand. Open-shoving or LRRing all-in whenever you get them is actually optimal.
If PF shoves rarely get called and you wanted to do something a little bit different, you could raise to 2.5xbb with AAds in LP in addition to your premium non-AA hands, but for the most part, a lot of limping and open-shoving is the best way to play PF in NLO. There's a reason they usually play this game pot-limit. |

[/ QUOTE ] Limp-reraising is fine, I do that from time to time but since I'm mostly playing HU to 4-handed I'm just going to open with them anyway most of the time since I'm again almost always coming in for a raise unless it's a really aggressive game. I guess it should come down to one's style of play/opponents/image as well. Just seems wrong just winning the blinds with a very good hand most of the time. Somehow I get put on Aces in most big pots to my advantage |
