Just used an online translator thing and it says that it means:

"The consciousness step"

What does that mean?

Its a philosophical term. Make it "threshold of perception".

no guarantee though, its been a while...

It's more like a level of (self)consciousness. Like in "he reached a higher level of consciousness through meditation" but is often referred to carious hallucinogenic states achieved through (excessive) use of drugs
