we've been heads up for about 15 minutes and 90% of the hands were taken down on the flop by cont. bets. Only 1 hand went to show down.

well, I think you are trying to get me to answer my own question.... I bet to take down the pot, but when he puts me in, I didn't know whether it is correct to call or fold.

were you trying to get worse hands to fold or better hands to call? betting out of reflex is pretty bad, it gets you into spots like this. betting to simply "take down a pot" is lazy short hand for "i bet with no reason at all and now im screwed." I'd call now, but without specific reasoning I think that flop bet is fairly awful.
