Default Motivating yourself to play...how?

hey all,

I am pretty young and play 200nl and 400nl and I am a pretty steady winner. I really have nothing going on and could play poker but choose to do other things like surf or just whatever. I 6 table and on days where i basically have nothing to do, i still find myself only getting in 1-2k hands. I by no means need to make money playing poker but I definitley wish i could motivate myself to play more. If i can motivate myself I won't play stupid and will obviously make more money. The main reason I want to do this is to have financial security.

Any basic advice on how to motivate myself to play more? Switch softwares every once and a while or something?

I play poker for other reasons than $$. It is alright, not everyone needs to be making a living from poker. Surfing or just whatever is a lot more fun than poker. It sounds like your life is nicely balanced. You can always play poker when you are to old to surf.

When you are young financial security is some intangible concept out there in the future somewhere. Truth is you may not be around to enjoy financial security. Society the way it is set up may suck your lifetime of earnings out of your hands in a few short years, sometimes months.

If you have work that has a retirement plan, put your money in at the max rate. If you have extra cash start an account at a brokerage house. Be reasonable, but remember being the wealthiest person in the retirement home isn't all it is cracked up to be.

this is my problem too. trust me, if you try to force yourself to play more when you really dont want to, things will not turn out well. if you force yourself to do anything that you really dont want to, you arent gonna enjoy it. just do what you like. if you like surfing, go do it. stop reading about all these people putting in 100k hands per month. dont try to compare. just do whats good for you

Why don't you go see a financial planner and discuss how to get where you want to be? I don't think you should play more than you like to play. Not sure you'd still play as well. You might try more live play or a few tournaments, maybe variety will be good - but first, see what you have to do, exactly, to get what you want.

1K-2K hands a day is a lot. I'm sure you could play more, but poker can be pretty stressful and there are more important things you could be doing.

If you don't feel motivated to play more, it could be a sign that you are getting burnt out.
