Default hdtv picture keeps getting cropped as extended display

Trying to use my hdtv as a second monitor, it supports 1080i but no matter what resolution i choose the bottom and right edges are cropped out in maximised window/full screen apps.

I messed around with stuff in ati's driver program (x700 pro pci-e) and have messed around with the tv's (sharp aquos 32inch 1080i) horizontal adjust and vertical adjust settings but the picture is severely cropped and those settings just move the screen and don't compact the picture.

what resolution is your tv outputting?

is it 16:9?

TVs would normally be 16:9, and computers are normally 16:10. this would seem to explain the problem.
