Default ****Official WCOOP Challenge Thread ($1k sidebet)****

Original thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...14#Post12056706 (Can a mod lock it, please?)

Entry fee:

$1000, sent to Entropy xx (Chicago) before the start of Event 1 (Friday 3pm eastern). After sending, post here with your screen name.

Scoring:

Every cash will be awarded points based on the following formula, which is a modified version of the pokerstars tlb formula intended to somewhat smooth the effect of huge cashes: Points = 10 * [n^(1/3)/k^(1/3)] * [1+log(b+0.25)], where n is your finish, k is the field size, and b is the buyin. (Under this formula, winning the main event, assuming 2500 entries, will be equivalent to ~9 minimum cashes. Under the tlb formula it'd be equivalent to ~20).

Unlike the TLB system, you will only be awarded points for cashing, not top 15%.

All cashes count. Highest total score wins.

For the two rebuy events, the buyin number will be (Total prize pool)/(Total entrants), which I imagine will get the $215r nlhe somewhere in the $600-$800 range, and the $320r plo somewhere in the $1k-$1500 range.

Payout:

0-9 entries will be winner-take-all, 10-18 entries will pay two spots, (70/30). 19+ entries will pay three spots (50/30/20). I doubt we will but if we get way more entries then expected we'll deal with payout to 4 or 5 then.

Scoring examples:

A few people have asked whether missing events will cost them too much. Here are the number of points you will earn for various finishes. Generally, skipping a few of the smaller field events (i.e. the non-NLHE events), especially the $215 ones, will not hurt your ability to win the contest very much. Also, I doubt very many people will be playing every event. Basically, scores for small cashes aren't much different for big events and small events, but big cashes are worth significantly more in big events. That said, whoever wins this will probably have 4-5 cashes, including 2-3 good cashes; obviously the more events you play the better chance you have.

$200/200 entrants: 1st = 193.08, 6th = 106.25, 20th = 71.13
$200/500 entrants: 1st = 262.05, 6th = 144.21, 15th = 106.25, 50th = 71.13
$200/1000 entrants: 1st = 330.16, 10th = 158.72, 20th = 123.73, 70th = 80.11, 100th = 71.13
$200/2500 entrants: 1st = 448.09, 10th = 207.99, 20th = 165.08, 70th = 108.73, 150th = 84.33, 250th = 71.13

$500: above numbers multiplied by 1.12.

$1000: above numbers multiplied by 1.21.

$2500: above numbers multipled by 1.33.

Winning the Main Event, assuming 2500 entries, would be 596.60 points.

Standings

Assuming I'm around (nearly every day), I'll post a scoring breakdown for the day's events after the first break, and update standings each day before the next day's events start.

Field size is a bigger factor in the scoring than buyin, so I don't see any reason to exclude it. I doubt anyone is playing it anyway.

If everyone wants to exclude it, that's fine. I don't care either way.

im gonna do the contest and think im going to be playing the 5k horse. why should it be excluded? i think the small size of the field will counteract the big buyin

Scoring info to help w/ the 5200 horse decision:

Points for winning $5k/300 entrants = 314.57, or about half of winning the main event or the other two sunday events (the 530 and the 1050). With 300 entrants, the Horse would probably be the sixth or seventh highest worth event, after those three, the 215r and the two six max nlhe. the 320r plo and 1k lhe might be bigger too, and it's possible some of the other events will have big enough fields to be worth more (a $215 event needs like 1300 entrants). I wouldn't be surprised if you get more points for winning the 215 horse than the 5200.

Even after modifying the formula, field size is still the main factor, just less so than in the regular tlb formula.

Sent. I don't see why you'd get rid of the horse. I'm playing but likely massively -EV
