Default .5/1 My set is crushed here, right?

Villain is running around 10/6 over ~300 hands. I really should have bet the flop but MP3 was a huge donkey so I
guess I was just hoping Villain wouldn't get involved and I was going to c/r donk.
This is my first OP so please help me get it to look right.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

saw flop|saw showdown</font>

MP3 =#A500AF(MP3)/ ($93)
CO ($127.80)
Button ($107.60)
SB =#A500AF(Villain)/ ($99)
BB ($66.30)
UTG ($40.30)
UTG+1 ($173.95)
Hero ($97)
MP2 ($57.50)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 4, 4.
2 folds, Hero calls $1, 1 fold, MP3 raises to $4, 2 folds, SB (Villain) calls $3.50, 1 fold Hero calls $3.

Flop: ($13) 4, 5, 6 (3 players)
Villain checks, Hero checks, MP3 bets $6, Villain raises to $18, Hero ???
Call and reevaluate turn is first thing that came to mind. I was pretty sure I was behind but I flopped a friggin' set right??!!! What if I had 55?

Change format to 2+2.

Folding is not an option! SB could very well be on a draw, two pair or over pair here.

I like a call . If we shove MP is probably going to fold his overpair, but if we just call he might raise, or at the very least call.
If a blank falls on the turn its an easy bet. However WTF do we do when the straight or flush completes??? I'll leave that for someone else to answer

Maybe the real question is the turn so I'll complete it, but I'd still appreciate flop comments.

I Called $18 on flop and MP3 folded. 3h fell on turn and Villain bet $40, leaving him w/$37.
IF a blank hits river am I shoving over this bet for sure???
He was such a nit I though he had a better set a huge % of the time.

FWIW I am pretty sure a 10/6 would play 77 this way as well as sets (and maybe other hands too).

It looks like he was planning to check/raise, but then the bet/raise line spooked him

not a check-raise spot, to the original poster... your set is crushed because you checked the flop.. if you had made a bb then, no

i dont want to call 3bb to get stuck on broadway up agaist AJd

I just spent 20 minutes trying to run through different scenarios. The bottom line is that if you can outplay him call the flop bet. If he's always got a made hand fold. And if he is psycho aggro go allin.

a c/r that plays out like this on that flop in a multiway pot beats bottom set enough times here for me to be ok with a fold and get off cheap from a VERY sticky situation. sets are great and all, but their strength is all relative.

if it's a draw, how many 'safe' cards are going to come? the 15 big scares will come (diamond/3/8) ~30% of the time on the turn, and even if a blank like a Ks comes and he leads for half his stack, you still have no idea where you are. if the board pairs 5 or 6, you have the worst fh possible and get stacked if he had any 2pair or set. and not to mention you still have the original raiser behind you to act.

bottom line: BET THE [censored] FLOP!! slowplaying by going for a c/r on this board makes me want to puke
