Re: Career Mess-Ups
oh, sorry Nick. I posted mine on top of yours. Refresh my memory, what exactly did he do wrong again? I know he was in a theater but did it have to do with children?

Re: Career Mess-Ups
I don't think it had anything to do with kids katy. It's just that he had a popular kids tv show and he got caught whacking off in a porn theatre.

Re: Career Mess-Ups
No worries Katy.
I don't think he had much of a career left in 1991, but what remained was pretty much killed off when he was caught masturbating in an adult cinema. Then in 2002, he faced child pornography charges as a result of owning a bunch of what he called "vintage erotica", some of which dated back to the 18th century. He managed to argue that everything was legal at the time when it was created, and pleaded guilty to obscenity charges instead. I've loved Peewee's Big Adventure ever since I can remember, but think that's probably more due to Tim Burton's directing than the guy himself. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Woody Hayes - Gator Bowl 1978
[ QUOTE ] Dec. 29, 1978, Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, Fla.: Hayes' Ohio State team is trailing Clemson 17-15 but threatening from the enemy's 24 in the final minute until Tigers linebacker Charlie Bauman intercepts a pass by freshman quarterback Art Schlichter. End of threat, but not of excitement. Bauman's teammates cluster around him after he was knocked out of bounds on the Ohio State sideline — rubbing helmets, exchanging hand slaps and doing all the other congratulatory things football players do. Then so suddenly that ABC's cameras didn't pick it up clearly, a white-haired man wearing a jacket and baseball cap charges into the midst of the melee and throws a right-hand sucker punch that lands on Bauman's collarbone. The assailant is Woody Hayes, and the moment he delivers the punch, his 28-year career as an icon in Columbus and throughout Ohio is over at age 65. By the time the team returns home the next day, Hayes has been fired after winning 205 games, two national championships and making eight trips to the Rose Bowl. At the Columbus airport, police escort him from the plane to a car waiting on the tarmac, and he is driven off — to his house and into uncharacteristic obscurity. [/ QUOTE ] Woody Hayes was LOVED by everyone in the state of Ohio. I grew up in Columbus and he was on the same level as god to some people. I was at that game with the marching band and I thought we were going to be killed. The crowd was like a home game for Clemson and they were wild fans. Woody went from the top of the world in College Football to obscurity. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Pretty easy current one. Should be a lesson for everyone. If you are good at something, then keep doing that. The grass isn't always greener...

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Fishwhenican: Did Woody have an explanation? Reading your story I thought he might have been upset at excessive celebration or something but watching the video they hadn't even started to celebrate. Woody threw the punch as the guy stood up.
esad: I have no idea who that girl is or what the story is. I'm afraid I watch very little tv. Brief description of events please? |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
fyodor,
im not sure but i think thats katie couric. i almost always read my news so i cant be 100% sure. Assuming its her, she had a huge following as being an anchor on her station (i think nbc) to CBS. Im not sure why this is a mess-up though? Bad ratings? |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
Possibly not a career mess up as such but I am sure it has harmed future earnings due to loss of reputation. |

Re: Career Mess-Ups
[ QUOTE ]
esad: I have no idea who that girl is or what the story is. I'm afraid I watch very little tv. Brief description of events please? [/ QUOTE ] Katie Couric. She was the host of the morning Today show on NBC. On the Today show she did the typical perky friendly morning girl shtick. She got offered to do the nightly news on CBS and took it, I guess thinking that because she was popular on the Today show she'd make it big in serious news. From the AP just this last week: [ QUOTE ] CBS News, Couric hit bottom with smallest viewership in 20 years It surely wasn't what CBS dreamed about when Katie Couric was hired: the CBS Evening News last week recorded its smallest audience since 1987, and probably many years before that. [/ QUOTE ] You can also read this story. [ QUOTE ] CBS executives deny it, but there's a growing feeling within the network that Katie Couric is an expensive, unfixable mistake. So unfixable that Couric - the first woman to anchor a network nightly newscast solo - may leave CBS Evening News, probably after the 2008 presidential elections, to assume another role at the network, CBS sources say. [/ QUOTE ] This is pretty big news in the US. |
