Default Bears will not re-sign Ron Rivera

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2771399

I'm stunned. Turns out it didn't matter that the Bears faded Rivera getting a head coaching job somewhere.

Their letting the wrong coordinator go. Please let Norv Turner hire his brother as offensive coordinator in San Diego.

This looks like another case of Bears ownership throwing nickels around like manhole covers.

When the defense carries your team to the superbowl, and the coordinator is in a contract year, you better be prepared to give him a raise.

I can never understand why teams are so cheap when it comes to coaching, think about all of the expendable nobodies on their roster that make more than Rivera, and he doesn't even count against the cap. Foolish.

I kind of could see this coming. Rivera was going to want Greg Williams money and there was no way the Bears were going to pay that for a D-coordinator. It's pretty typical of this ownership group.

Plus the players have always talked about how Babich and Rivera thought right along the same wave length. It is not set in stone that he is gone, but I would have to think there will be teams doing all they can to get him on their staffs.

A Chicago official noted before the Super Bowl that the Bears would be in worse shape if another club pursued offensive coordinator Ron Turner, since there was no heir apparent on the current staff.

This is the part that bothers me. While I'm fine with Turner's offense, the Bears need somebody else calling plays. His playcalling this year made Rex Grossman look like... well like everbody thinks Rex Grossman looks like.

No big deal. Lovie deserves most of the credit for that defense anyway. Babich or whoever will do fine. The defense will probably decline slightly, but it won't likely be because of the coordinators.

Rivera might want to try not sucking at interviews.

Between this and SD hiring Norv, this has been Bizarro day in the NFL.

Yeah, the bears are a pathetic penny-pincher organization that won't even pay one of the best coaches in the league or one of the top assistants. I hope Lovie is coaching the packers in 2008.

No kidding. Is Chicago just THAT confident in Rivera's replacement? I guess so, but I have the same thoughts as some others that not counting against the cap is a big deal.

I wonder how much coaches would get paid if they counted against the cap.
