Hmmm I think there's something wrong with needing to compensate, or arrange for something to occupy the wife's time, just so you can play poker. Doesnt the SO have any hobbies of her own?

What is there to get? So your wife doesnt like it when you play poker. So what? Do you have to justify everything you do to your wife? Who put her in charge? A balanced relationship should involve activities that each person does away from the other, and that probably wont interest the other person. Bad news if one person in the relationship has to defend their actions and interests from judgment from the other side (within reason of course).

Buy her a lawnmower to keep her busy while you play poker.

If you win, buy her a new lawnmower (one with a motor).

Win some money, buy her something nice with it. Once there's $500-$1000 or so per month coming in from "your hobby", she'll get quiet quick....
