Nobody thinks Jesus was born on December 25. Christmas is a clear adaptation of pagan solstice festivals.

[/ QUOTE ] I think the confusion comes in when people who don't even think the date is factual (but are Christian) start talking about the "true meaning of Christmas," and others assume that they are implying that 12/25 and Jesus' Birthday are tied together. |

I think since no one knows the actual date of Christ's birth, that understanding Christmas as Christ's Birthday (Observed) is the way to go.
