I think that most people, including me, need to bet the flop here because the chance of getting in trouble when you take a card off (i.e. turning a losing made hand) is very high. You are not likely to get raised here by anything other than a flush, a straight, or maybe a set, and if you get called, I think that you can assume that your heart draw is no good and proceed accordingly. Peeling one here is OK, but only for very good players. You are more careful than most, so I think that you could play the flop either way.
