Default One-sided games: Newbury v. Bridgewater State Baseball, 57-1

Box Score and Summary of Game

April 9. 57-1. In Baseball. Ouch. And they didn't even get their last at bats.

It was 47-0 after four innings.

At what point if you are on the winning team do you stop trying?

At what point if you are on the winning team do you charge the mound with a bat?

When you're up by 20 runs... you stop trying, put in your red shirts and call it an afternoon for pete's sake. This is embarrassing for the other team. Clearly they're outmatched, but to pump it for 57 runs? I respect shows of dominance and athleticism, but I think if I had saw this in person, I would definetly have been on that winning team's case. This is humiliating for the losing team.

(yes, I know they're just going to win the game and theoretically there's nothing wrong with hitting in 57 runs, but really...)

I played in a game when I was 15 or 16 against a team that couldn't get the last out. We were up by around 20 or 25 or so. My dad, the coach, instructed me to make an out. I hit a little check swing back to the pitcher. He threw it into right field. The other team then decided to quit. It was really pathetic.

When I was in Little League we were beating a team so badly that after we got a hit we had to step off the base and remove our helmets. That resulted in an out.

I recall losing a little-league game 35-8 or something and winning another one by a 40-5 score.

Some other team won 56-3 that year.

These games might have been called in the 3rd or 4th inning with the losing coach just saying that they had enough.
not sure.

I played on two of these in college, one on each side. My freshman year we lost to Methodist College by a score of 34-2 in the second game of a doubleheader, and it was called due to darkness after we batted in the top of the 5th. Two years later, we beat Mass Maritime 28-0. I can honestly say neither game was remotely fun.
