Default Timely Death? ..or dead before their time?

Plenty of artist die young, or at least, not in their older years. It can be argued some died at their peak, and they would have just gone down hill musically, while others would have gone on to produce more and perphaps even greater music music.
Example: Jim Morrison-Timely death.
Bradley from Sublime-Untimely death.
Lead Singer from Morphine- Timely death.
John Lennon-Untimely.
Bon Scott from ACDC-Timely.
I didn't explain my reasons here for choosing timely, untimely, I just wanted to get the ball rolling.

Yea, Bon Scott is a tough one. He's the ultimate hard rock singer. Perphaps the lyricial equivalent of Bukowski...raunchy, blue collar, humorous, and right on the money. His live performances were tops, judging by video records. I'd say he was Jim Morrison's equal, at least.

But I don't know how well he would have aged. Could he have kept his style fresh as he grew older? I don't know. Bukowski certainly did, so why not Bon?

Cliff Burton - Untimely

I think if Cliff Burton had lived Metallica might have remained the amazing band they were for their 1st 3 albums. After he died, they really went down hill quick. It's apparent to me that he was the real guts of the band because after he was gome they quickly began doing all the things they said they would never do, like ballads and videos. They probably wouldn't be as popular as they became with their made-for-radio releases, but perphaps Cliff's existence would've saved the world from crap like "Enter Sandman" from being released.

Also Jimi was planning on working with an orchestra just before he died. I can't even imagine how cool that would sound.

Old Dirty Bastard... probably timely. I think he got just about everything done he needed to. Still sad to see him go though.
