Re: Binnions SOLD
TT I understand the casinos have it all figured out and make more the way they run it because enough suckers will still play. But I won't ever play at those limits and also when they only pay 6/5 on a blackjack.
If enough of us did this maybe they would go back to the lower limits and higher payouts for blackjacks. If it stays the way it is now I won't be playing any of these -EV games ever again which is fine with me when I know I can always play poker. |

Re: Binnions SOLD
I know what you guys are saying, but you have to realize these are some really smart guys. If they weren't making more by moving up the limits and room and buffets, they wouldn't be doing it.
Vegas is no longer a gambling mecca. I bring more people in who are here to see the sites, the shows and the spas than you'd believe. At least 20% don't gamble at all. 50% are here on business--conventions, company meetings or golf outings. And that's the low rollers who take shuttles. The people in limos are going straight for the bigger games. Vegas made some good decisions years ago. Instead of competing with AC and the Indian casinos, they simply used those guys as the appetizer for the main course. AC is hurting, while Vegas booms. It's not for low-rollers, anymore. Benny would think it sucks. But he'd be rolled over, too. |

Re: Binnions SOLD
I strongly feel Binions needs to remodel back to the original decor .
Bring back the low limt BJ games. (one-two deck games) Bring back an assortment of cheap eats at specific times throughout the day. Yes even bring back the million buck display etc. The poker is doing very very well when I was there this past week. The classic has tremendous potential in the coming years. |

Re: Binnions SOLD
The Monorail simply has zero chance to ever be anything but a waste of money.
Re: Venetian and Harrah's, there are major traffic issues in that back corridor which I believe necessitated the odd traffic flow. The Venetian got blackballed out of having a monorail stop. That was just shortsightedness by those involved as conventioneers have been the major patrons. Regarding "where will the mid-level players play since everyone is targeting the high end" question, that's simple. First and foremost the casinos will fill the hotels at any cost. So as all the new capacity comes on in the next few years, if there really is not enough high-end demand to fill all the rooms, then it just means that rates will drop and the middle-market gamer will end up with a room far far far nicer than he'd ever dream of getting otherwise. All these new high-end projects will likely benefit the middle-income gamer more than anyone else. And if not, it's because there will be amazing depth to the high end, resort type market. The biggest issue Vegas will have is capacity constraints at McCarron and rising (here to stay IMO) fuel costs which will cause 1. issues getting enough people into the city and 2. will cause higher airline rates which reduces disposable income/gaming budget/hotel ADR/frequency of visitation. |

This sounds like a doomed strategy to me - wasted resources when the average traveler will avoid the longer trip without effective transportation, whats your opinion? |

[/ QUOTE ] They will build it, it's a matter of satisfying the environmentalists. They won't be moving commuters there. What they will do is move all the non-commuter flights there. So UPS, FedEx, etc will all move south, freeing up gates for tourists. But, they are already behind where they need to be in order to avoid peaking out McCarron's capacity, and they fall further behind each day. The Review-Journal has good articles on the topic from time to time. |

Re: Binnions SOLD
If you go about 20 minutes south of Mcarran or even north by the race track, there is absolute TON Of land and it's perfect for having another smaller airport. The casinos will undoubetdly start shuttle services, not to mention that the shuttles that run now will have to expand down there. Rental cars will still have the busses going to them and I'm sure the cabbies will just "love" that extra 20 minute drive, lol
But yes, I personally think a secondary airport would be greatly beneficial in the next 10 years. |

Re: Binnions SOLD
Plans are for an airport in Jean. This is why the big buy-out in that area.
I would bet in a few years a light rail will be running between here and state-line. the land North of here is tied up by the BLM, Nellis and others. No airport in that area. |

I had completely forgotten about Nellis AFB with all the air traffice up there. not possible for an airport up there whatsoever. But yeah, Jean is a great spot!

Re: Binnions SOLD
Since the Four Queens is as far as I can tell the only casino under the canopy to offer full play blackjack on all their games, including single and double deck, maybe that speaks well for the future of blackjack at Binions?
For what it's worth I'm still a huge downtown fan. I just spent the better part of two weeks there and I love being able to walk from casino to casino in just minutes. There are good cheap restaurants like the coffee shop at the Golden Gate where I ate breakfast a lot of mornings. The poker room at Binions was rocking the whole time I was there, as the BPC seems to be a huge success. I hope Binions and downtown in general survive for a long time to come. If it takes bringing back The Mint, then so be it. Hell, bring back Coin Castle if that's what it takes! |
