No PT stats or reads, I had just sat down.

you are ahead of mp2 like all of the time. he can't be setting up a turn c/r unless he's really bad. ergo, bet for value.

maybe bb has a flush or an 8, but without a read, you can't assume that. ergo, bet for value.

you also have 9 outs to the effective nuts! $$$

4-straight 3-flush board = maybe he just crapped himself and doesn't want to call a raise with his set. And BB is a concern. I'm ok with OP's line.

Any 8 makes a straight and it's entirely possible BB has something with an 8 in it.

This is a horrible reason to bet the turn.

my first thought was that KK/QQ was at least as likely as JJ/TT (and in fact there are more combos of the former than of the latter). but i guess we have to discount KK/QQ somewhat since mp2 didn't cap preflop.

it's true that bb is "a concern", but it's hard to put him on anything. he did donk the flop, which reduces his holdings that contain an 8 (J8 or something maybe?).

if i were worried about a c/r, i'd be much happier to check behind the turn. we don't mind giving a free card, especially since we don't mind taking one (those 9 outs to the effective nuts). plus, we usually insure that we get to showdown for 1 BB.

without fear of a c/r, i think it's much closer, and i want to value bet against unknowns until they prove to me that they aren't simian nincompoops. betting the turn also often gives us the option of taking a free showdown, though i can't imagine why we would want one in this situation.

agreed. also, we are never "picking up this pot" on the turn.

but modern, you should really agree with xhad more; the bastard is almost always right.
