Re: Am i SOL for B&M play?
Depending upon which part of the state you're in and if they pass table games outside of Charleston, WV on Saturday, you could be 4.5 hrs or so away (if you're in say Charlotte). Still not great but better than 12.
I hoping for it to pass so I'll only be about 2.5 hrs away. Though this is all assuming they end up running a good poker room and are able to spread mid-limit games (I don't play much no limit). |

www.pokermashup.com Search for closest poker rooms by zip code [/ QUOTE ] I tried this (I live in Salt Lake City) and it gave me Ute Mountain Casino in Colorado, which is ~290 miles away, yet there are 3 full service casinos in Wendover , NV. with poker rooms which are ~120 miles away. |

Re: Am i SOL for B&M play?
Semi on-topic -- regarding map distance algorithms, my first trip to Tunica I used the Motel 6 finder which put me in Helena, Arkansas, which it said was about 18 miles from Tunica. I ended up at least 50 miles from the casinos!
Problem #1: I used Tunica, not Tunica Resorts or Robinsonville, 14 miles north. Problem #2: Their algorithm appeared to give distances "as the crow flies," i.e. assuming I could helicopter over the Mississippi River instead of driving 20 miles south for the nearest bridge. Needless to say I learned an important lesson about trusting online distance finders. Cheapskates only gave me a $10 coupon for my troubles. |

[/ QUOTE ] Very sorry to let you know that the referendum was voted down in June. It will be another two years before they can get it put back on the ballot. It passed in at least two other places in WV though, none close, but hopefully that will add pressure or influence in a couple years when they try again. I was really, really, really looking forward to a casino setting closer to me than the 3 hour AC drive. I was doing some research and apparently it took AC several tries on the referendums to pass gambling there back in the day too. http://thegarmans.org "Jefferson County - Charles Town (Charlestown Races & slots): Failed 5,626 to 4,429. Speculation is that the referendum failed mostly because of proposed budget allocations. Proponents have stated that they will revisit the budget and seek another referendum." |

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, that's CHARLES TOWN, WV. Which is different than the capital which is Charleston, WV. There is one remaining county to vote in West Virginia. The county is Kanawha County which Charleston sits in I believe. The actual casino is about 15 miles west of Charleston. It's called Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center. They did not vote with everybody else because of some procedural problems. They decided to postpone the vote until August 11th. The economic situation is a little worse there than in Charles Town so hopefully it will pass. http://www.news-register.net/page/co...87.html?isap=1 |
