jobs with Gaming Commission?

There's already a thread on Mass.'s plan to open three casinos. I live in the area, and see this as an inevitability.

However, doing so would require the state to start/expand a state Gaming Commission.

I understand there are good state jobs to be had in the Gaming Commission, particularly in the Investigations & Enforcement division.

Any input on what some of the good jobs are in a state Gaming Commission, and how to get them?

Don't know about how to get a job or what a good job would be with the Gaming Commission but I can't see why anyone on this site would want one. Don't most states prevent anyone employed by their Gaming Commission from playing in any casino licensed by that state.

I'm 99% sure Nevada has this law for their Gaming Commission employees.

Yes, but the Governor's plan calls for creating a new Commission, and then having Investigation & Enforcement as part of the Attorney General's office.

You may want to start by taking a general civil service exam. And ask around your friends and associates to see if anyone knows anyone. I.E. politicians, government employees etc. to help get you in. I would assume that the best jobs will go to those who have connections.

So, assuming the commission is officed in Boston, that means you'd have to drive ~2 hours to the Connecticut casinos to play. Which... is exactly the situation any Boston resident has today. Depending on OP's priorities, that may not be so terrible.

I once asked a Mississippi Gaming enforcement agent about what it would take to get a job like his, but I stopped listening as soon as he said, "Police academy", as I was too old and fat for that.

I recently applied for a gaming enforcement agent position in Indiana. When I went to take the written exam there were about 150 people there, and that was for one of two days. I was asked for an oral interview, which could have gone better (first real job interview, kind of blew it). I thought I would have an advantage with an associates degree in Criminal Justice, but I think for the most part they are looking for people that have already been through the police academy. If you are hired you must go through the gaming enforcement academy, which is only a couple weeks I believe.

I just applied for a "problem gaming coordinator" position a couple of days ago, and the description as to what this job entails was a little vague. In Indiana, as in most or all states, a position with the gaming commission prevents you from playing at any casino in the state.
