What would you do?

One of the rooms in my small 3-bedroom apartment was subleted over the summer by a young Indian man who I do not know anything about except that he has a full time job.
Recently he moved his mother, his sister, and his nephew into the apartment. Because there is only one bathroom, and the place is already a bit of a mess, I decided to report him to the landlord in the hope that he is thrown out.

is this a dick move?

he has already been told by the landlord that he should not have anyone but himself there, though i think he's in a difficult spot what with a bunch of family members with no money probably.

wait so you live with this guy?

i would talk to him about it before i reported him, give him a few days to move them out or something.

Not a dick. This would piss me off more than just a little. You both rented under a certain agreement. I am guessing that you would not have moved in had this situation pre-existed.

i tried to say something the other night about it and he said verbatim "yeah, yeah, yeah..." just sort of avoided the topic

are you both living there at the same time? if so, you have every right to be disgruntled

or is it a matter of you not living there over the summer, and over the course of the summer he's moved in his family to live with him while he lives there? if so, i wouldn't be as mad personally but i'd still take it up with him and give him a bit of time to right his problems

I agree. I think this is really really standard for people in India (or perhaps very poor people in general), and he somehow thought that was also the case here
