Superb trade for Arizona. Josh Byrnes for president? Ari should win the division. Arizona and San Diego are the two best teams. It will be fun to watch.

Not really; they may not even have a top 3 rotatition in the NL West. Peavy/Schmidt/Zito match up just fine with Webb (some are worse, but all have the potential to be almost or just as good). Cain/Lowe/Young look to have the same, if not much better, ERA's than Johnson. Lowry/Hensley/Penny are just as good as Hernandez, with Maddux having the most risk of being worse. Hernandez hasnt had good peripherals since 2004. And the 4/5 dont really matter. Wolf, Billingsley, Davis, Maddux, Morris; all should be decent, with Davis and Bills with the biggest upside.

I dont see the Dbacks dominating even the NL West with their pitching, even though I think RJ will be much better than his 5 ERA last year.

[/ QUOTE ]

Since when is 2/5ths of the games not important anymore?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because they should all be about the same, with the players I mentioned with the biggest upside. The 1-3 spots on a rotation are much more important than the 4-5 spots.

I'm fairly confident that the division fight will be the Dodgers and Pods, while the Giants and Dbacks will fight for 3rd.

I am extremely confident that the Dodgers got worse -- talk about some OBP problems now -- while the D'Backs and Pads improved themselves, and the Pads were ALREADY better than the Dodgers.

Really, the Pads are starting to scare me re: Arizona winning the division. What Nate Silver said about them is pretty sick -- above-average or better hitter at every position. Depth is a big issue, and obviously they can't play all 162 games like that, but still. And their pitching is sickness.

Chris Young though, man. Conor Jackson. Carlos Quentin. Too sexy.

I wouldn't wager my house on a 43 y.o. 'power pitcher' coming off of back surgery. Yes, the Unit used to be very good.
