Prenups should be required by law. Yes, another law to protect the stupid, but love makes otherwise smart guys do stupid things. Plus, it'll help clean up the court system from all the divorce proceedings.

wouldn't it just be easier to redefine the terms of the civil union as recognized by the state than it is to make a law concerning divorce.
besides, even acknowledging divorce would make a neocons head spin off.

QFT. Courts have even enforced child support when the husband has been proven not to be the father via DNA testing, many many times.

It's better to have any man financially supporting a child than the government.

...Ill do whatever she asks of me while we are married, if she decides she wants to break that vow, than I will feel no guilt after the fact.

[/ QUOTE ]

What if you were the one that breaks that vow?

Also, just to get back to the OP: pre-nups should be mandatory, then all the awkwardness is taken out if it. There is never a reason not to have a pre-nup.

Alimony

My dad paid alimony to his ex-wife. When their daughter turned 18 and went to college, they agreed he would send the alimony check directly to the daughter since child support ended and she would need the cash. Five years later, the ex turned around and sued him for "not paying alimony" (since the checks weren't in her name). She won and he had to pay out $30,000...

In a perfect world I would say that I wont be the one to break the vows, and this is what I think now. I realize that this is naive, as Im only human, but if I truly thought things were my fault it would change my tune.
