87s at NL25: My straight is far from the nuts
SB is 30/4/1.6 after 71. I didn't have anything beyond that, partly because I had been busy watching two other guys who had recently left the table.
MP1 was new to the table and I had no read on him at all. On the turn, I wasn't really sure what to do, but I raised with the idea that I wasn't going to put much more money in after that. But then on the river I started having doubts and wondered if I should reconsider my plan. Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) UTG+1 ($22.74) MP1 ($23.75) MP2 ($23.50) MP3 ($21.95) CO ($30.85) Hero ($25.15) SB ($26.35) BB ($25.75) UTG ($16.39) Preflop: Hero is Button with 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I think you can fold the river and that the turn was fine.
My experience is 1000 hands of NL $25 full ring and maybe 4 posts out of hte stickies. |

I wouldnt fault you for a call or a fold TBH. Id fault you less for a fold.

The turn raise is bad IMHO. Calling down isn't bad - your straight doesn't need any protection from a K really, but I don't even mind a fold here with 2 in the hand.

Re: 87s at NL25: My straight is far from the nuts
On the turn, yes. From the flop action, nobody is likely to have an A. SB is passive, yet he is betting into *4* players on the turn. Sure, since nobody showed any strength on the flop, he doesn't necessarily have it here, which makes the case for a call, but it certainly takes away any equity we need for a raise. MP1 could have picked up a draw, but he needs to be an idiot to make the call with two to act behind him. Again, not to say he isn't given the stakes, but...

My thinking when SB bet the river went something like this: "Could he have just made trips? I guess it's possible. Maybe I should call. What's MP1 doing calling, though? Can I really overcall here? I mean, MP1 could have a better straight that he decided to trap with when SB led the turn. Or maybe he wasn't trapping so much as he was scared of the flush, especially after I raised. His call does mean I'm getting about 3:1, though."
So I was about to hit "call," but then I reminded myself that my turn raise represented at least the hand I had, and yet SB was practically potting the river anyway. I thought, "Eh, he just boated up (with, say, JT) and wants to get paid." So I ended up folding, and I waited for verification that I made the right decision at showdown. Unfortunately for me, what I saw instead was the pot going to SB's K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. For his part, MP1 had J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Oh well. I wondered afterwards if my fold was a mistake, and I'm glad to hear it was reasonable. I did also wonder afterwards if SB was intentionally bluffing or not, but I don't know the answer to that. |
