Default Cell phone contract is expiring...

My contract with Verizon ends in about a month. I basically hate them as a company...been a customer for five years, and whenever I have a problem I'm treated like [censored]. Really bugs me. I'd like to leave them, but given my experience with other communications companies (phone, cable, cell), I have a feeling that everyone will do their best to screw me anyway.

Two attractive companies to me are T-Mobile and Alltel, because the same 4-6 people take up about 80% of my calling time. I also send ~2k text messages over the course of the month, again mostly to the same few people.

I don't know if any other companies offer free calling to a few particular numbers.

Here's basically what I want out of a plan:
* 300-450 anytime minutes
* unlimited calling to certain friends
* unlimited texting to certain friends

Appreciate any input.

Alltel apparently doesn't offer service in my home town, so they're out.

I had Tmobile for like 3 years, loved them, I left for Verizon(because of the network was suposed to be better) and dont like the V coverage(lot of dropped calls) If you send that many texts, you may want to get something like a sidekick with unlimited text plan, otherwise what you have (V) has an unlimited text plan too. My contract will expire end of year and I will prob stay BC of the number of free mobiles I get with them. Out of curiosity, what kind of problems have you had?

I'm just getting started w/ TMobile. I'm reasonably satisfied, but the one thing to bear in mind w/ their MyFaves plan is that you don't get unlimited calling to all TMobile customers unless they're in your Faves. Depending on what networks your 4-6 people are on, this may or may not factor into your decision. If they're land lines, though, TMobile is probably your best bet. I don't think the MyFaves includes unlimited text for those 5 people, but IIRC, you can get unlimited text for $10/month.

T-Mobile is looking pretty good...for $40/mo I can get 300 minutes, and add $15 for unlimited texts. Also the OpenMoko phone will work for T-Mobile so I can get something similar to the iPhone.
