Default Breakfast at Tiffany\'s

Watched Breakfast at Tiffany's for the third or fourth time over the weekend. Anyone else really like this movie? 1961, George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn (32 at the time, and absolutely gorgeous). I always enjoy how both of these characters' "professions" are not too subtly hinted at, but no one comes right out and says it either. Pretty well framed film, good dialogue, but the ending always seems rushed.
This film has Mickey Rooney's finest comedic performance, IMO - just hilarious.

Have never seen it or much of Audrey Hepburn.

Prior to the pants commercial that features AH, my 13yr old daughter developed a sort of fancination with Audrey...not sure what's up with that exactly. I think it might have something to do with the Gilmore Girls TV show.

My wife and I watched it last week. My wife was actually amazed by Hepburn also. I guess she had only seen Hepburn when she was older and she thought (as did I) that she looked incredible.

They were a lot more subtle with Audrey's profession than with Peppard. We actually saw him get paid money and have an apartment paid for by the woman in question, then we had that woman willing to cut a check to him to keep him on retainer.

With Audrey, it was more subtle. We knew that she went on a LOT of dates. And that she got paid $50 to "powder her nose". But we didn't see her do the deed or even have it implied that she did the deed. She was almost portrayed more as an escort than as a call girl. (The fact that she wanted to get with the Brazilian guy for his money is not necessarily an indicia of being a hooker).

It would be an interesting discussion to compare and contrast AH's character in BaT with Piper Laurie's character from The Hustler.

Default Disturbing News

I just found this out - but it may be old news. A remake of Breakfast at Tiffany's is in the works starring... Paris freaking Hilton.

I sense a great disturbance in the force....

Yeah, I watched it for the first time not long ago (in fact I reviewed it in here), and found it really didn't live up to its reputation. I did like it though, especially the shopping scenes.

Mickey Rooney was totally and completely unfunny though.

I'm not sure if I actually like that movie or if I'm just in love with Audrey Hepburn.

Fortunately IMDB doesn't list that as a definite project yet.

Not having read the novella by Capote, or seen the movie for that matter, I understand the movie is very loosely based on the source material. So if someone wanted to go back and reinterpret the original source, that certainly is an option given what they had to do in 1961 with the original in order to even film it. I can't see Paris Hilton in it, unless of course they think she could play the role well due to her extensive personal experience in Holly Golightly's profession.

Paris Hilton would be terrible in it. What makes the movie is that, despite her character's profession, Audrey Hepburn makes Holly into a likable character. Paris is not capable of doing that.
