Nation -

You have PLENTY of money, trust me...

[/ QUOTE ]

compared to...what? his age cohort? The other types of people spending 3k a month with 12k in the bank?

From the sounds of it he has like 6 months living expenses left as a full-time poker player, that's not exactly a rosy picture. He needs an exit strategy.

I guess I missed the part where he spends 3k/month. That's absurd.

I'm not even going to go into my financial situation, but it's a hell of a lot sparse than yours, Nation. I still manage to have fun.

Figure out a budget, make enough playing poker to cover that budget. Whether you do it in 2 days, or 5, so be it, don't set aside a certain number of hours, hands, etc. Too constraining imo.

Why are you spending 3k/month again?

fwiw i'm 23, just got a job as a sharepoint developer/consultant, and am getting paid 65k (associates degree as well.) I have no idea why people think there is a strong correlation between level of education and earning potential (If this were the case all PHD's would be millionaires.)

QFT and nice. SharePoint seems to be starting to take off of lately. Our company just started its implementation as well.

With a good FT job and a lot less poker, you might be better off. Stressing over poker income sucks hard. Grinding as a FT occupation just isn't for everybody.

Nation,

If you play full ring, there is no [censored] way that 12K or 35K in life savings is going to prevent you from busto by the time you are 25 y/o. You can rectify burning out temporarily or finally make it to 400NL and make more money, but in the end, boredom will defeat you every time. Time to find a real job and become a PT player. Or take a shot at NL 5/10?

Barry

I'm in the same boat, have played [censored] all for the last 9 months after a good '06. Now though, I'm actually looking at the price of things and, I hoped I'd never see the day again, having to realise the value of money. Didn't help that I spent almost half my winnings from last year on a car that no-one will insure me on this year as I have too many penalty points so I'm gonna have to sell it and take the €10K+ deprectiation hit.
I have to play poker again now and I think it's for the best as I really lost the run of myself when I didn't have to play. I'm now approaching it with the same attitude as yourself which is the attitude I had when I was playing my best.

instead of playing a bunch of hands at 1-2 I would play less tables and try to get decent at poker

that or you know, if you have decent skills/qualifications
