how is gordon average? his season last year was just as good as deng's.

your reasons, so far, are horrible.

[/ QUOTE ]

no one thinks gordon is nearly as good as deng. plus deng plays a deeper position.

wade
bryant
mcgrady
redd
manu
ray allen
vince
iverson
iggy
kevin martin
joe johnson

are all def better

barbosa, rip hamilton, and brandon roy are all of similar value.

if anything, ben gordon is SLIGHTLY better than average.

Semtex,

Yes, the Celtics were lucky that Kevin Garnett specifically was available, but that's missing the point. Every so often a superstar is available, and it's all about putting yourself in the best position to grab him when he's on the market. That's what Ainge did.

Wasting a mid-lottery pick on Telfair was a disaster, but even so, Ainge's draft record is way above average. It's even better when you consider that he got a lot of those draft picks in the first place by making creative trades.

PS: I love each and every one of the GM's who let Danny Granger fall to the Pacers. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

3 million for 5 years to Scalabrine, the Telfair mess, the fact that Doc Rivers is still coach, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

3 million for a guy who can play multiple positions, play good D, and knock down the occasional three? I've grown to like Scal.

The Telfair mess. Ainge wanted Rondo with the 7th pick anyway, so he figured why not...

1. get rid of raef's godawful contract.
2. pick up a promising pg prospect.
3. acquire theo ratliff's soon to be expiring contract to enable us to trade for a superstar.
4. get rajon rondo anyway for essentially free.

you realize that while raef and theo had similar money numbers on their contracts, raef's was two years longer, and he was a terribly negative asset that was "lost" in the telfair trade.

Semtex,

Tell me a player better than Al Jefferson who was featured in a package for KG.

man you really are a homer. He's really, really bad, and even if the 3 mil is no big deal, locking up bad players for 5 years is awful.

No 3 mil/player can be that AWFUL. He shot 40 percent on threes last year. For this team, he's a better option than Leon Powe or Big Baby for backup PF.

Big Baby is a better option, especially considering how good this team is. Let him make his mistakes now so he can be more effective by season's end. He at least has room to learn and grow. Not to mention he can actually REBOUND. Scal is probably the worst player in the league getting this many minutes, other than maybe Jeff McInnis.

Quoting the 40% 3pt shooting is intellectually dishonest. Before this season, he was a career 35%, which ain't bad, but he's not some crazy threat or anything. Otherwise he might average more than 85 attempts a season.

This season, he's managing to hoist up 2 a game in 13 mpg, shooting 27%. Sweet.

Also, you're a huge Hollinger fan boy? Who's got one of the worst PERs? Scal.

I can't remember now but wasn't Phoenix in the hunt at some point? So, Amare/Marion?
Either way you guys have convinced me that Ainge isn't one of the worst GMs in the league like I previously thought.

EDIT but until he fires Rivers he cannot be put in the premiere class of GMs IMO
