Default So I decided to start up a site

Just wondering if anyone may have some tips, really new to php, html etc. etc. My wife knows a ton about coupons and stuff so I figured that was a good subject. [site edited out] any tips would be much appreciated.

What are your goals with the site and who is your intended market? This site is very similar to eBlogger or some blog site I remember. What kind of tips are you looking for regarding htmp, php. Have you tried using Macromedia software? It looks pretty good so far, but for coupon businesses you might want to have coupons directly on the index page. I guess knowing your goals would clear some of these questions up.

This site looks very similar to every other blog that uses the default wordpress theme, which is probably a whole crapload of blogs.

Edit: also, if this doesn't fall into the "no spamming your site" category I'm going to need some clarification on the sticky.

WTF is it against the rules to post links to your sites now. What kind of crappy forum is this turning into. This forum has realy gone down hill. No wonder most of the posters have left.

It was always against the rules, it just wasn't enforced properly in the past.

Since it wasnt enforced why do you have to be the enforcer. You are coming in and messing with the culture that is already set. Part of the point of this forum has always been to show off what we do and have others comment on it. I dont mind that you deleted my link becuase it only took me 10 mins to do and I realy didnt need feed back on it. I just was commenting on how crappy it was and the fact I still made sells.

If someone has a site that they have worked hard on site and wants to share that with us I do not see how that is a problem. We can give them advice and learn from what they are doing at the same time. I have seen some amazing work from people and learned a lot from this kind of interaction. This forum has never realy had a spam problem. Its kind of pointless to come on here if we cant talk about and show others our projects.

What is the rule we can link other peoples sites just not our own? We can put links in so where are you drawing the line. Something that looks stupid to you as a moderator may be very informative to others on the board. Maybe my site sucked but others could see the CJ ads on there and see that they are preforming well and check them out themselves. I was not trying to sell anything to anyone or promote a product. I do not see what the problem was.

because that is part of what a mod is supposed to do. You can discuss these things without linking to your site, and if someone really wants to see it they can PM you for it.

Those are 2+2's rules.

SO IM ASKING WHAT IS THE [censored] RULE

2plus2 provides a way for us to link sites so what sites are we allowed to link and what sites are we not. Also its a huge waste of time when I get a bunch of pms from people asking me what the URL is when you could have just left it alone.

Ron Mexico is banned for repeatedly going out of his way to make our lives difficult and offering nothing in return.

The rule is very simple. If somebody is affiliated with a site, they can't link to it.

Other people can link to it if they think it contains something worthwhile, but linking to your own site ain't allowed.

Dear people in this thread that don't get it,

OP made a website using wordpress software with the default theme. To his credit, he changed the color scheme. He made a post about coupons, just as he said. Nothing about this thread required seeing the site. I could tell you 10 things to read about php and html without ever seeing the site.

This is all apart from the fact that LINKING YOUR OWN SITE IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED.

R_M,

This rule is not why this forum is low quality. Letting people link their own sites is not the key to improving discussion. The key is to get you guys focused on something other than gaming adsense and bickering about what widgets command the highest premium to bulk wholesale price on ebay. Until you can get away from those sorts of topics it's going to remain a low content forum.
