Re: Taking a shot at 100nl - was this really so bad?
Hell, I was 4 tabling NL100 with an $800 bankroll just two months ago. Last week I was playing NL25 with a $2600 roll. Bankroll requirements are meant as a guideline, not as a law or anything.
As long as you're able to a) hit the brakes and run off to NL50 (NL25 in my case) for a few days if things turn really sour and b) play your A-game without letting your bankroll affect your play... I say knock yourself out. |

its fine, there is nothing wrong with playing 10% of your bankroll, strict bankroll requirements are only necassery if you are in the mindset of "this is my limit and I will not budge" taking shots doesnt come into this.

Re: Taking a shot at 100nl - was this really so bad?
In my opinion the only thing you need to watch out for when doing this is topping off your stack. Playing my regular game I think nothing of topping my stack off whenever it needs doing. If I play a moderate pot and lose then I just fill it up again, that's the point of playing cash.
When taking a '1 buyin shot' you have to ask yourself what you'll do when you play a 40BB pot and lose. Are you going to short stack the game? If so do you play well with significantly less than 100BB? Are you going to walk away? If so what constitutes 'moderate' and what will you just fill up? Are you going to top up all the time? If so where does a '1 buyin shot' stop. Will you get annoyed if you lose 40BB in a moderate pot, top up and then flip for a stack which you also lose? |

Yup, been able to walk away is essential when taking a shot, if you have difficulty doing that then is best to stick to 20 buyins etc.
