I would tip $1 per person, except if I am eating alone (which I sometimes do at casino buffets), I usually tip $2.

Standard is usually 10% but obviously round up if the price is very inexpensive. Sometimes more if someone really busts ass.

I've never seen a place like the OP mentioned (or Souper Salad, Sweet Tomatoes, etc) charge 18% for groups. If they did this, people would just pretend they weren't in a group.

I think the obvious answer is, who cares? It's a buck. Apparently 2 bucks max. You're not making or breaking anybody's day either way, I assure you.

$1/person
If its a buffet with more service than that and I think they did a good job i'll go $2.

Also Sweet Tomatoes is horrible. Like almost as bad as old country buffet but with less meat.

Agreed on amount. But also on priciple, I'd feel dumb tipping at buffets, unless I really got service. In which case, I wouldn't be at a buffet, or at least not at any I cal recall.

I go to soup plantations regularly, and there's no service to speak of. If I want a refill of a drink, I go get it. If I want more food, I go get it. If I need some more napkins, it's up to me, etc. I can't see tipping for that.

It is called SOUPlantation... they have lots of SOUP and salad options. It is not meant to be a country buffet.

tipping threads really, really need to stop. seriously.

[/ QUOTE ]

But have you seen a tipping at a buffet thread?

[/ QUOTE ]

Only about once a month.

[/ QUOTE ]

Then I should have titled this thread, "Tipping at buffets during August". Sorry for the confusion.
